Applacation
Xanthan gum is mainly used as a drilling fluid additive in oil drilling, and has the following key functions
1. Thickening and suspension: It can increase the viscosity of drilling fluid, suspend solid particles such as cuttings and barite, prevent precipitation, and ensure the smooth discharge of cuttings during drilling.
2. Adjust rheology: Improve the rheology of drilling fluid, maintain high viscosity at low shear rate, stabilize the well wall; reduce viscosity at high shear rate, reduce circulation resistance.
3. Reduce filtration loss: Form a thin and tough filter cake, reduce the filtration loss of drilling fluid to the formation, and avoid collapse or expansion of the formation due to large filtration loss.
4. Heat and salt resistance: It has good temperature resistance (can withstand high temperatures of about 180°C) and salt pollution resistance, and adapts to complex downhole environments.
Its use can optimize drilling efficiency and ensure drilling safety. It is an important functional material in oil drilling.
