Paraffin wax, a non-polar hydrocarbon, dissolves in gasoline and benzene but not in water or methanol. Available in melting-point grades (e.g., 52, 54), it comes in two main types:
Crude paraffin (high oil content): Used in matches and fiberboard
Refined paraffin: For food/pharmaceutical packaging, candles, insulation, rubber, fruit coating, and fatty acid synthesis
