Sodium chloride is slightly soluble in ethanol, propanol, and butane. It becomes plasma after being mutually dissolved with butane. It is easily soluble in water. NaCl can form colloids when dispersed in alcohol. It is almost insoluble in ether. It is a white, odorless crystalline powder with a melting point of 801°C and a boiling point of 1465°C.

Sodium chloride, also known as salt, is an ionic compound with the chemical formula NaCl, representing a 1:1 ratio of sodium and chloride ions. Industry:

1. When sodium chloride aqueous solution is electrolyzed, hydrogen and chlorine are produced. Chlorine has a wide range of applications in the chemical industry and can be used to synthesize polyvinyl chloride, pesticides, hydrochloric acid, etc.

2. Preparation of metallic sodium by the Dans method: Sodium metal is prepared by electrolyzing a mixture of molten sodium chloride and calcium chloride. Calcium chloride is used as a flux to reduce the melting point of sodium chloride to below 700°C. Calcium is less reducible than sodium and will not introduce impurities.

3. Sodium chloride is necessary for many biological reactions. For example, many solution formulas in molecular biology experiments contain sodium chloride, and most bacterial culture media contain sodium chloride. It is also the raw material for the production of soda ash by the ammonia-alkali method.

4. In the inorganic and organic industries, it is used as a raw material for the manufacture of caustic soda, chlorate, hypochlorite, bleaching powder, refrigerant for refrigeration systems, raw materials for organic synthesis, and salting-out agents. It is used as a heat treatment agent in the steel industry. It can be used as a heating medium in a high-temperature heat source with potassium chloride, barium chloride, etc. to form a salt bath to maintain the temperature between 820 and 960°C.
